You may want to employ an architect if you are undertaking a large, or complicated job. They often come up with brilliant ideas that you would never of thought of, after all, that is their job to make the best use of your space. They will also, of course, provide the scale drawings to be submitted for planning permission. Indeed, if the job is large enough, its worth considering them as project managers.
